Working as a travel clinician is a great way to earn more, but saving for a rainy day isn’t always as easy. Check out these ten quick tips to help you save when you work.

1.)  Utilize your agency’s benefits
Take advantage of the benefits your agency has to offer. You may be able to arrange travel at your own expense, but you can save money utilizing the benefits offered by your agency.

2.) Save money
As a travel nurse, you are likely to earn more money than you need to live. Put away extra money to build up savings for extras you may want or need in the future.

3.) Find roommates
Sharing accommodations with roommates can help split the living costs across multiple people, allowing you to save money. Also, having roommates can help fight off the loneliness you might experience as a traveling nurse.

4.) Cook meals at home
It’s easy to get into the habit of eating out or buying food on the go when you are traveling. However, you can save lots of money by packing your lunch and cooking at home. If your accommodations don’t have a kitchenette, consider buying foods that microwave, like soups or meals that don’t need to be refrigerated.

5.) Set an entertainment budget
As a travel nurse, you have an amazing opportunity to experience new places. However, sight-seeing can get expensive, so set yourself a budget and stick to it.

6.) Look for coupons
Coupons are a great way to save on everything from groceries to entertainment.

7.) Volunteer for extra shifts
You can volunteer to work extra shifts while on your assignment

8.) Communicate
Talk frequently with your recruiter and let them know your compensation needs. Whether it’s a high-compensation position or sign-on bonus, your recruiter will help look out for your needs.

9.) Join a bike/car share
If you live too far from your job to walk, consider joining a bike or car share program. You can reduce the cost of commuting by utilizing public transportation.

10.) Refer your friends
Your agency knows that your referral to your friends is the best advertisement you can offer. That’s why they offer referral bonuses.
